ERC ALERT- PRESIDENT ED MNANGAGWA PROCLAIMS 23RD OF AUGUST 2023 AS POLLING DAY
President ED Mnangagwa has set the 23rd of August 2023 as the day for general elections in Zimbabwe. In Proclamation 4 of 2023, President ED Mnangagwa has also set the 2nd October 2023 as the date for a run–off for the election of the office of the President if such a poll becomes necessary in terms of Section 38(1)(a)(iii) of the Electoral Act.
Voters Roll Inspection
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) is currently conducting a voters’ roll inspection exercise across the country. ERC encourages all voters to visit their polling stations or alternatively District and Provincial Centres to check their names in the voters’ roll.
Closure of Voter Registration
According to the Electoral Act Section 26A, voter registration closes two days after the President proclaims the election. Therefore, Zimbabweans have until the 2nd of June 2023 to register to vote and participate in the 2023 Harmonised elections.
Nomination Court
In relation to the election of the nomination of the Office of the President, National Members of Assembly and Councillors, the nomination court will sit on the 21st of June 2023 commencing at 10 o’clock in the morning at various locations across the country.
